Volakas is quarried around the village of Volakas on Mount Falakro near Drama in northern Greece. Trade calls it marble, yet composition is often described as a high-dolomite white. Its signature is a white ground crossed by grey, taupe, beige, and occasionally pink or violet veins in diagonal or cloudy forms.

It is not the same stone as Carrara. Carrara is a calcitic white from Tuscany; Volakas is the Greek Drama belt.
